A BARNER family surname DNA Project has been established online under the direction of Family Tree DNA. The test consists of a simple cotton swab of the linings of your mouth. The swabs are sent away to the labs, and the results are known in a few weeks. There are several levels of tests available, 12 marker, 25 marker, and 37 marker. The higher number of matching markers will determine a greater probability of a direct relationship. There are currently thousands of surname families registered, and it is hoped that we can get many more BARNER’s in the project. After all, we have a great wealth of names and relationships in our various Barner databases (Adam Barner, New York Barners, Virginia, Texas, Ohio, and several others), but DNA testing would establish proof of relationship.
