     John L. Barner was born on Tuesday, 16 July 1844 at Susquehanna Township, Juniata County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of George Barner and Lydia Lahr. John married Mary Ella Long, daughter of Christian Long and Hannah Ellen Atkinson, in 1871. He died on Monday, 24 May 1926 at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 8 days at Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
