Charles Merle Barner was born on Thursday, 23 September 1909 at Belle Plaine, Sumner County, Kansas. He was the son of Ray J. Barner and Mattie Beulah Richardson. He went by Merle. Charles married, at the age of 24 Marie Edith Reeves, age 20, daughter of James Allen Reeves and Mary Elizabeth Buckles, on Monday, 4 June 1934 at Newkirk, Kay County, Oklahoma. He died on Thursday, 29 August 1996 at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 6 days at Moline, Elk County, Kansas. He was buried in section K, lot 46, plot 1, at Belle Plaine Cemetery, Belle Plaine, Sumner County, Kansas.
