Samuel A. Barner was born on Wednesday, 1 December 1869. He was the son of Thomas Barner and Sarah Shull. Samuel married, at the age of 29 Sara Elizabeth Heckman, age 19, daughter of Isway Dewey Heckman and Lucy A. Fisher, on Thursday, 9 February 1899 at Clinton County, Pennsylvania. In addition to being husband and wife, Samuel and Sara were also second cousins.
