     Herman Robert Shirk was born on Friday, 23 May 1919 at Richfield, Monroe Township, Juniata County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Edgar S. Shirk and Clare E. Graybill. Herman married, at the age of 28 Gertrude Marie Gelnett, age 24, daughter of Milton Gelnett and Gertrude Pearl Barner, on Thursday, 27 November 1947. He died at his home on Sunday, 12 February 2006 at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 20 days at Selinsgrove, Penn Township, Snyder County, Pennsylvania.
