     John Wesley Straup was born on Tuesday, 17 October 1865 at German Township, St. Joseph County, Indiana. He was the son of Daniel B. Stroup and Susannah Ann Barner. John married, at the age of 21 Sarah L. Barner, age 22, daughter of Joseph L. Barner and Sarah Elizabeth House, on Sunday, 27 February 1887 at Buchanan, Berrien County, Michigan. In addition to being husband and wife, John and Sarah were also first cousins. He died on Saturday, 14 March 1925 at the age of 59 years, 4 months and 25 days at Humbolt, Minnehaha County, South Dakota. He was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, South Dakota.
