Elmer Ellsworth Barner was born on Tuesday, 13 June 1865 at Pennsylvania. He was the son of Henry L. Barner and Maria Went. Elmer married Maggie Cox, daughter of Thomas Cox and Francis Reed. He died on Tuesday, 23 July 1901 at the age of 36 years, 1 month and 10 days. He was buried at Barner's (Saint John's) Lutheran Church Cemetery, Liverpool RD 1, Perry County, Pennsylvania.
