Gordon Smith was born in April 1927 at Security, Washington County, Maryland. Gordon married, at the age of 24 Betty Lee Mowen, daughter of Daniel Herman Barner and Ethel Catherine Provard, on Saturday, 14 July 1951. He and Betty were divorced on 17 November 1961. He died in July 1996 at the age of 69 years and 3 months at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland.
