John Charles Coffey was born on Sunday, 29 April 1917 at Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of John Emory Coffey and Kathryn Edna Fogelsanger. He was buried at Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
