He and Delores were divorced in 1977. Wayne married (2) Henrietta Lubetski in 1977. He died due to cancer on Thursday, 20 October 2005 at the age of 68 years, 1 month and 28 days at Clinton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton, Prince George's County, Maryland. He was buried on Tuesday, 22 November 2005 at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC.
